Atlanta Coffee Shops – Crema Espress Gourmet (Dunwoody)

September 26, 2024

I’ve been trying to get out of the house more. Working from home, regardless of how exciting a side project or my responsibilities at Hi Seltzers might be, gets boring—quickly. My day usually starts at the gym and often includes taking 1-2 walks throughout the day to break things up a bit more. I’ve also been trying to stick to using the Pomodoro Technique (“POMO”) to stay focused on a single task: work for a bit, take a break, then get back at it. Even with all that, I’m typically home alone, with Nazifa leaving for the day at 5:30 a.m. and getting back around 4 p.m. That’s been pushing me to figure out how to get more sun, more activity, and maybe just a little more interaction with people in person.

I’ve been trying out some local coffee shops for a while, and I thought, “Why not set out to try as many different shops as possible?” Maybe I’ll find some new favorites, new spots to make my office for the day. From my experience, you always end up chatting with someone cool or enjoying some good people-watching. So, I want to dedicate this “series” to all the coffee spots I get a chance to check out.

Crema Espresso Gourmet

Even before moving down here, my sister and brother-in-law were singing praises for Crema. Conveniently located just a few minutes from their place, we’ve been frequenting the spot for light breakfast items and, of course, their coffee. Over the last 6-7 months, I’ve made my fair share of visits to Crema. Sometimes, it’s a quick pickup, and other times, I’ll sit for a while, working or reading a book. I haven’t noticed any consistent patterns for when it’s busiest or least busy. I’ve experienced both: times when the place is packed and all the tables are taken, and times when most tables and chairs are open, and I can pick my favorite spot.

I always gravitate toward their little setup in the back with coffee tables and couches/armchairs—it’s perfect for a more relaxed hangout instead of the usual chair/table setup. It’s especially fun if you’re there with someone and just catching up. The bar-top seating by the window and the main dining area are better for working on your laptop. But I’ve also definitely lounged on the couch with my laptop on my lap to get some work done!

What I Like to Order

Drink – I usually go for an iced coffee with oat milk or a latte with an extra shot of espresso—and of course, oat milk.

Food – For a while, I was wholly addicted to their almond croissants. Recently, they had an almond & chocolate version that was fantastic. Their croissants always seem so fresh—perfectly crispy on the outside and absolutely moist and delicious on the inside. I also absolutely LOVE their “Sunshine Aioli Sandwich,” which is a super simple sandwich that blows my mind every time. It’s arugula, sliced hard-boiled egg, cucumbers, and their aioli sauce. I think that’s it! It’s so simple but ridiculously tasty and fresh.

Final Thoughts: You Won’t be Disappointed!

I’d give their coffee a solid 8, ambiance & coffee house environment an 8.5, service an 8, and food a 9. But hey, I’m not sure if I’m keeping track of scores just yet! Either way, I definitely recommend stopping by Crema to try their coffee and one of their delicious pastries or sandwiches!
